中國人過年吃狀如元寶的水餃(dumpling),俗稱長年菜的芥菜或刈菜(Chinese mustard)、年糕(rice cake/New Year’s cake)象徵財富、長壽與步步高升(wealth, longevity and promotion)。
(The tradition of eating grapes at the strokes of midnight is prevalent in countries such as Spain, Portugal, and Mexico.)。
(Europeans and North Americans eat cods or herrings to celebrate the new year.)。 日本人過年吃的「御節料理」(osechi-ryori/Japanese New Year’s cuisine )含2、30品項,其中的鯡魚子則代表多子多孫祈願(the herring roe:a wish for lots of progeny)。 Toshikoshi Soba/New Year’s Eve soba noodles)可去晦氣(bad luck)並迎新年。
(Cakes and baked goods are also considered as New Year’s lucky foods in Greece, Italy, and Mexico.)。
